By odd coincidence, I just saw on TV the advert that I was told about earlier today. So, trivia fans, if you're wondering who is playing The Winster Gallop on that John West tuna advert with "the annoying fiddly bits", it's Anna Esslemont of Uiscedwr. Jeez, the info we provide for you . . .

Actually, what the heck is going on out there in TV advert land? I rarely see the things, but in two hours having a brain switch-off this evening I saw not only Anna's "annoying fiddly bits" but a Specsavers ad featuring sheepdog shearing mishaps with somebody lamenting away in Gaelic, and a Co-op ad with Dylan's Blowing In The Wind. So it's not just Radio 4 that's being infiltrated then. Any other sightings/hearing of fRootsy stuff in the world of TV commerce lately? It's a long time since Ladysmith were selling beans . . .

I heard Woody Guthrie's 'Car Song' on an advert the other day. Can't remember what it was for - a car, presumably Confused or maybe car insurance.

Nina Simone has been flogging yoghurt for a while now, or at least Muller have been using Ain'tGot No, I Got Life.

I like the dancing http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lOKbFJWQAC8

(BTW, I haven't seen the specsavers ad, but I looked it up - "The haunting traditional song, called Mo Ghile Mear, was arranged and beautifully sung by Una Palliser."
Karen Matheson and others do a version of that song on the Transatlantic Sessions)

Tis a mad world, my masters - they even had Morris dancing on the "Oz Clarke and James May Drink to Britain" programme last night:

(I am not admitting to watching it!)

Funny, that...folk accompanied ads one after the other last night. Plus James May on recorder joining in with the Morris men...still he is a car man isn't he. Not so successful with Oz Clarke dancing/running away. I have to agree, the Audi ad with Woody is superb...graphically and musically.

Surprised no-ones mentioned Steve Earle & Sharon Shannon's "Galway Girl" being used on the Magners Cider ads.
